“Twelve years ago I came to work at Carol Woods. I was looking for a job and heard this was a great place to work. Employees stayed for a long time and it was very hard to get a job here. Carol Woods has a beautiful campus with lots of new facilities.
The Health Center where I work is unlike any other long-term care facility I’ve worked in because it has small neighborhoods for 8 residents with a dining room, lounge, and their own apartments. This makes it very homey. There are no long halls to walk, and the staff are great people to work with as well as the residents and families. Some residents stay for years and you get to know them and their families. Often they become like your own family.
I find the atmosphere always fun and friendly. They have good benefits such as dental and health insurance. Carol Woods is just a great place to work!"

Chrys Churas, RN, has been at Carol Woods for 5 years. She was a student in the RN Refresher course offered by UNC-Chapel Hill’s School of Nursing for nurses wanting to return to the work place after many years away from the profession. She’s found great rewards in gerontology and feels appreciative that she can make a change in someone’s life, no matter how big or small.
“I was coming back into the nursing field and one of my instructors at UNC recommended Carol Woods as a great place to work. The residents are wonderful and I love caring for them and making a change in their lives. The staff is wonderful because they meet and greet you all the time, you know everybody’s name, and they know your name. It makes it a place where you count.
When working in an environment that often cares for people at the end of their lives, you feel as if you are helping them be at ease, and supporting them in their choices. There are a lot of little things that can make a big change in somebody’s life or how they feel—probably only for that minute or that day, but it helps. You can reassure someone who is unhappy. Even just taking the time to give someone a shower makes a big difference in their day. It’s pretty much all around a good place!”
